Discretion can make all of the difference.
Captain calls and says there is an issue with the AC system. One of the chiller boxes is no longer working. We get on the plane and head to the boat.
Captain tells us we have 36 hours to fix the system, the owner will be on board soon. His anonymity is of the utmost importance.
We removed all applicable plumbing and wiring.
Pump the lines with nitrogen to locate leak.
Cannot find it.
Still cannot find it.
Sun is going down, we call it a day.
Next day, 10am. More nitrogen secured, a good nights rest.
We return to the boat, locate the leak, repair the copper, re-plumb and re-wire and reinstall the chillers.
Fire the system back up.
Raw water circulation pump lost its prime.
Bleed valve loosened, we prime the pump.
Tighten, tighten, tighten, BAM. Water everywhere.
Turn system off. Water everywhere. Bleed valve broke off.
We rush to secure a new one, owner will be on board in the morning.
We drive through the night, secure the right fitting, install and then the whole system works again.
Stressful, to say the least.
